Amitis Naxos Beach

Amitis beach, is situated 10 km north of Naxos town, on the road to Apollonas. Amitis beach is pretty much the first long, wild beach north of Chora. The drive to Amitis beach is beautiful, going through the Galini and Eggares, which are the nearest villages. Amitis beach is a rugged, quiet beach with a natural mix of sand and pebbles, and a little chapel set off to one side of the bay.  It’s not an organized beach, meaning you need to bring your own umbrellas and towels, and there is not any tourism infrastracture here.

After leaving Eggares there are 2 signposts with access to Amitis beach. The first one is 1.5 Km after Eggares and before the water catchment area, and the second is 2.7 Km after Eggares and after passing the artificial pond. Both routes lead to the same part of the beach. It is popular for the locals who are living in the nearby Eggares and Galini villages. Amitis beach orientation as a large wide open bay with strong currents, favors large waves, and makes it ideal for water sports like windsurfing.

Amitis beach is a desolate long sandy beach protected from south winds, making the beach ideal when wind blows from south. Amitis beach orientation as a large wide open bay with strong currents, favors large waves, and makes it ideal for water sports like windsurfing. The beach is wavy during north winds. It’s advised to drive to Amitis beach with your own transportation, because there is only 1 bus per day in the summer.
