Panormos beach or Panermos beach, is located in the most far southeast coast of the island, 55 Km from the town and port, and 25 Km from Moutsouna beach. It would take you around an hour and thirthy minutes to drive here without stops. Driving from Naxos town to here and back is a proper full-day activity excursion. Panormos beach is the only beach on the island that is not affected by any winds.
The route to get here is the finest presentation of Naxos’ wild natural beauty! Panormos beach is another Naxian hidden gem, and the most quiet beach of the island with superb scenery, worth the long distance, when you swim into its green waters, and relax under the palm trees and tranquil atmosphere. Its transparent blue and green waters will fascinate you. Panormos beach is a long bay, with a golden sandy shore backed by tall palms and tamarisk trees. It’s a beautiful place for a swim, and the most charming section of Naxos island with intrinsic beauty, beautiful coves, and gorgeous views of the nearby islands Koufonisia, Irakleia and Amorgos.
Snorkelling is very cool here. Apart from literally thousands of sea urchins, you’ll see many seashells, and you’ll enjoy really crystal-clear waters!
Situated on a low hill, close to Panormos beach, and a 10 minute walk, you can see traces of the prehistoric monument of acropolis at Korfari of Amigdalies, remains of houses, walls and deserted buildings from a very old settlement. Acropolis is early Cycladic dating back to 3rd millennium B.C. It was discovered in 1963 by the archaeologist Mr. Christos Ntoumas – an excavation leader in Akrotiri of Santorini.
The Panormos beach is not organized, meaning you need to bring your own umbrellas and towels, there’re no rooms to rent, or any tourist facilities around. There’s only a small refreshement place serving drinks and snacks, but it’s not always open, meaning to be on the safe side, bring your own supplies. Panormos beach is for those who love excursions and want to explore the island. Access to the beach is via an excellent asphalt flat coastal road with the last 300 m dirt road.
NOTE: Topp off your day with an excellent boat trip. Captain Yiannis’ trip is a must do! At the end of the Panormos beach, there is a small pier where a small boat, called Gialitissa, and owned by Yannis, can take you for a small fee, to a 2-hour trip to the magnificent Rhina Cave and its beach. This is an experience of very good value for the money. Worth every penny! You’ll be able to dive into the cool sea, from the boat or from the cave’s rooftop, swim into the cave with its pure calm and pure crystal clear waters, and grab some amazing shoots. Enjoy the cave’s silent underwater world which explodes into color with corals and redfish. At the roof of the cave you can admire the stalactites lining the dome which bats, sparrows and doves that use it as their hideout.
The boat route to Rhina Cave is simply stunning. The captain Yannis will tell you all about the history of the area, and will offer you some local snacks and wine. It’s a very nice experience- we guaranteed you’ll love it too! We – as ELaiolithos – definitely recommend taking this journey! Swimming in the caves is a great highlight.
The boat leaves at 1pm, 3pm and 5pm
Your trip to Panormos beach would be worth every minute! Welcome to the most remote beach in Naxos Panormos beach!
