Historic & Cultural Treasures (All within 5–15 minutes):
Panagia Drosiani Church – Just a 350m walk from ELaiolithos, to one of the Balkans’ oldest Byzantine churches (4th–6th & 12th century). A spiritual, peacefully frescoed and architectural gem not to miss. Every traveler who comes to Naxos eventually finds their way to this church — a sacred landmark, second only to the Temple of Apollo (the Portara Gate) in Naxos town. From here, it’s just a gentle five-minute walk; step through its timeworn doors, and you’ll feel the soul of Naxos whispering in the stillness.
Kaloxylos Village & Olive Oil Tasting Museum – A picturesque village 2 km away. Visit ERGOSTASIO, where tradition meets flavor. Tour the museum with just 8 euros per person, explore its exhibits, learn and enjoy an unforgettable olive oil tasting experience—consistently loved by our guests. 📍 Google Maps link
Halki Village – Only 3 km (5-minute drive). The former capital of Naxos is now a hub of artistry, local craftsmanship, and gastronomy. Find The Kitron Distillery (free of entrance), handmade textiles, workshops, and artisanal shops featuring olive oil, herbs, honey, and more. This is the most visited village of Naxos — where the island’s heart beats the strongest, among neoclassical buildings that whisper stories of another time.
Everyone who journeys across Naxos eventually passes through here, drawn by its charm and vitality. Whatever the island’s highlands and heartland produce, you’ll find it in these small local shops — each one tended by hands that grow, weave, and create. We always advise everyone to shop here — to choose treasures that are local, handmade, and born from the island’s essence. Every purchase keeps the rhythm of this village alive, supporting the farmers, artisans, women, and mountain people who carry forward the true spirit of Naxos.
Ancient Temple of Demeter – 11 km away. Older than the Parthenon, this 6th-century BC temple is steeped in myth. Visit the archaeological site and the museum—a true must-see of Naxos. 📍 Google Maps link
Monastery of Fotodotis – Light-Giver of Naxos – Perched on a serene hillside above Danakos village, the Monastery of Fotodotis (meaning “He Who Gives Light”) is one of the island’s most atmospheric sites. Dating back to the 6th century, it offers a blend of spirituality, history, and panoramic views that stretch all the way to the sea. The walk to reach it is a peaceful uphill path, surrounded by olive trees and silence—well worth the journey. It’s a place where time slows down, and light truly feels sacred. It is near the Agia Marina chapel – the starting point for hiking to Zeus mountain.

But what truly sets Keramoti apart is the Routsouna Waterfall, one of the island’s most spectacular natural wonders. From the village, a 40–50 minute hike takes you through verdant trails, citrus groves, and ancient terraces, leading to a dramatic waterfall cascading down a rock face. The path itself is a journey of scents and sounds, where birdsong and running water accompany your every step.

We are located in the heart of the island to give you the most authentic experience:
- From Naxos Port (Chora): Approximately 20–25 minutes by car (18 km).
- From Naxos Airport (JNX): Approximately 25–30 minutes by car (20 km).
-
We can help you arrange a rental car for pickup at either location or organize a private transfer.
There’re 3 different routes that lead you to the hotel. The best one is, once you get our of town, go through the villages of Potamia, Halki (Khalkion), to Moni. After Halki village there is a junction and you keep left. 3.5 Km on your right side, you meet ELaiolithos, the only structure on the area.
Is driving in the mountains difficult?
The roads leading to ELaiolithos are paved and offer beautiful scenic views of the Naxian countryside. As you would expect in a mountainous area, some sections are winding, so we recommend driving at a comfortable speed and enjoying the journey. Most stretches are wide enough for two cars to pass comfortably, although some narrower sections require extra care.

Transportation & Getting Around
The answer depends on your goals for your stay:
Do I need to rent a car? Yes, we highly recommend renting a vehicle. Naxos is a large island, 404 sq.m, the largest of the Cycladic islands. If you want to explore the island, and visit major attractions/monuments, and picturesque villages, you need and must rent a car.
-
For the Hikers & Relaxers: If your plan is to simply unwind and immerse yourself in the mountains, you can easily spend 2-3 days here without a vehicle. ELaiolithos is surrounded by incredible trails, and you can explore the neighboring villages and scenic landscape entirely on foot.
-
For the Explorers: If you wish to see the famous beaches, distant landmarks, and the full diversity of Naxos, we highly recommend renting a car. Naxos is a large island, and having your own vehicle allows you to move at your own pace and reach hidden gems that public transportation simply doesn’t serve. Relying on the local bus can be limiting, as it only operates on fixed schedules and stops at specific main points.
💡 Pro-Tip:
Most of our guests find that a car is the best way to enjoy “the best of both worlds”—the peace of the mountains and the beauty of the coast!
We have plenty of free parking on-site!

Wherever your adventures take you across the island, you can count on us for advice on where to go, what to see, and where to eat.
We recommend only authentic local restaurants and tavernas where fresh, seasonal ingredients and traditional Naxian flavors take central stage. We’re deeply connected to our local community, and we often say, “We know the hen that laid the eggs!” That’s how closely we know the people and producers behind the food.
With at least one hand-picked recommendation in every village, we’ll help you discover the real Naxos—not just the places everyone knows, but the local spots and flavors that make the island special.
Is the tap water safe to drink?
At ELaiolithos, our tap water comes from the local water supply serving the traditional village of Moni, which draws its water from the natural mountain spring in the Fanari area.
Water quality matters to us, and we have carried out water quality tests. We have also installed carbon filters as an additional filtration step. We drink this same water ourselves, and we encourage our guests to help reduce single-use plastic by refilling their reusable bottles before heading out.
Our tip: Bring a reusable water bottle and fill it before exploring the island. For longer excursions, plan ahead and take enough drinking water with you.
Want to learn more? Discover more about the different water sources across Naxos in our detailed article about drinking tap water on the island.
🚭 Smoking Policy
To preserve the fresh mountain air and keep our suites clean and welcoming for every guest, ELaiolithos is a 100% smoke-free establishment indoors. Smoking is strictly prohibited inside all rooms and suites. This includes cigarettes, cigars, vapes, e-cigarettes, cannabis, marijuana, and hookahs.
Smoking is permitted outdoors, including on private terraces and in open-air common areas.
Please dispose of cigarette butts responsibly. To keep our suites fresh and pleasant for every guest, please never throw cigarette butts into indoor rubbish bins, as the lingering smell can remain in the space. Please ensure cigarettes are completely extinguished and use the designated outdoor ashtrays or cigarette-butt receptacles.
Thank you for helping us preserve the cleanliness, comfort, and natural beauty of ELaiolithos.
Important notice: Any violation of the indoor smoking policy will result in a deep-cleaning fee equivalent to one night’s stay for the suite occupied. This fee covers the additional professional cleaning required and potential loss of availability while the suite is being restored to a fresh, welcoming condition. The fee will be charged in accordance with the property’s booking terms and applicable law.
