MANIFESTO
Before You Discover What We Offer, Discover Who We Are
A declaration of our vision — who we are, what we honor, and why ELaiolithos exists.
Where Heritage Lives
Where Stories Begin

OUR STORY
ELaiolithos did not begin as a business plan.
It began as a return.
A return to land.
To family.
To recipes that were never written down — only remembered.
Perched before Moni village, surrounded by the quiet strength of the Naxian landscape.
The cheeses served at the table come from her own family — fourth-generation makers who raise goats and sheep on this island’s terrain. The herbs grow nearby. The honey carries the scent of thyme from higher ground. Most ingredients travel no more than five kilometers before arriving on your plate.
Each suite was designed individually. Not repeated. Not standardized.
Stone, light, texture — chosen slowly.
All five share the same horizon. Because the view is not meant to be reserved for one.
This is a place shaped for travelers who understand that luxury is not excess.
It is space.
Silence.
Sourcing with integrity.
Time at the table.
ELaiolithos is not designed for everyone.
It is designed for those who value presence.
And when they arrive, they often feel it immediately —
as if something has aligned.
The Philosophy of ELaiolithos
ELaiolithos was created as an expression of heritage and intention. Not to impress. But to preserve: to honor the land, the culture, and the living wisdom of Naxos.
It was not conceived simply as a place to stay, but as a living expression of heritage — where landscapes teach, traditions continue, and every detail carries meaning.
Here, the past and the present meet with care, allowing the island’s spirit to remain authentic while welcoming thoughtful travelers into its story.
ELaiolithos invites guests to experience Naxos from an entirely new perspective — not as visitors, but as participants in a living culture shaped by generations.

A Manifesto Rooted in Heritage
Places carry memory.
Stones remember.
Landscapes teach.
Culture lives through the choices we make to preserve it.
ELaiolithos stands as a tribute to the land that shaped us and to the people whose hands keep the traditions of Naxos alive — shepherds, farmers, cheesemakers, loom weavers, artisans, and storytellers.
Their craft is not decoration here. It is the heartbeat of this place.
We believe authenticity matters in a world increasingly driven by imitation. Traditions should not remain frozen as museum pieces but continue evolving as living expressions of culture.
Luxury here is not excess. Luxury is intention.
It is the choice to create with purpose, to preserve with respect, and to welcome travelers into something meaningful.
Every suite, every pathway, every detail — from marble to textiles to recipes — exists with purpose.
The Guardians of Craft
ELaiolithos acts as a bridge between ancient wisdom and contemporary design.
Greek philosophy reminds us that harmony with nature brings balance and joy. These timeless ideas guide the way this place was imagined and built.
Sustainability is not a trend here — it is gratitude toward the land that supports us.
We walk lightly, create mindfully, and support the people who keep local traditions alive.
Local artisans, farmers, shepherds, and producers are the quiet guardians of Naxos’ cultural heritage. Their work shapes the experiences offered here, allowing guests to connect with the island through its crafts, flavors, and traditions.

Eleni’s Story: Roots That Shaped the Vision
ELaiolithos is deeply connected to the life of its creator, Eleni.
Born and raised in Naxos as one of six siblings, she grew up surrounded by the rhythms of traditional island life. Olive harvesting, farming, shepherding, and loom weaving were part of everyday family life.
Her father was a respected shepherd and cheesemaker whose knowledge of pastoral life passed through generations. Today, her brother continues this legacy as a fourth-generation cheesemaker and one of the island’s most respected artisanal producers.
Her mother has practiced loom weaving for more than 65 years, preserving a craft deeply embedded in Naxian culture.
Other members of the family continue this sustainable way of living — producing organic wine, cultivating potatoes, working with traditional weaving, and practicing sustainable farming.
These roots formed the foundation of ELaiolithos.
Although Eleni spent years abroad pursuing studies and professional life, distance deepened her appreciation for the island’s values. Returning to Naxos allowed her to transform that perspective into something tangible.
ELaiolithos became her way of sharing the beauty, simplicity, and wisdom of the island with travelers seeking something real.
Building a Vision
Construction of ELaiolithos took three years, opening its doors in 2017.
During this time, Eleni transitioned from her career as a decorator in New York to becoming the founder, designer, and creator of a sustainable hospitality project deeply rooted in Naxian culture.
Every suite reflects that vision.
Handcrafted details, loom-woven textiles, local materials, and artistic design combine modern comfort with authentic heritage. Each space tells a story while remaining connected to the island that inspired it.
Experiencing Naxos
Surrounded by thousands of ancient olive trees and sweeping views across valleys, mountains, and the Aegean Sea, ELaiolithos offers more than accommodation.
It offers proximity to the authentic rhythms of Naxos.
Nearby stone villages, centuries-old monuments, family farms, and living traditions allow guests to experience the island as it has long been lived.
From the terraces above the fertile Drymalia valley, views extend toward Mount Zeus and across the sea toward neighboring islands. The landscape reveals a quieter, greener side of Naxos — one defined by fertile land, open horizons, and timeless rhythms.
Here, travelers reconnect with nature, culture, and the slower pace of island life.

The Meaning Behind the Name
The name ELaiolithos carries its own story.
It is formed from the ancient Greek words:
-
Elaion / Elaio — olive
-
Lithos — stone
Together they evoke the image of the stone used to crush olives in traditional presses — a symbol of both heritage and transformation.
The name also reflects deeper meanings:
EL — Eleni / Hellas / Light
ELAIO — olive, eternity
LITHOS — stoneA poetic interpretation emerges:
The Eternal Stone within the Olive Grove.
At the entrance of the estate stands a rare antique olive press dating from the 16th century to the late 20th century. Carefully transported and restored from Moni village, it stands as a powerful reminder of the agricultural heritage that shaped the island.
A Living Narrative
ELaiolithos is not simply a destination.
It is a living narrative shaped by culture, philosophy, craftsmanship, and the natural beauty of Naxos.
It invites guests to slow down, to taste the land, to listen to the silence, and to discover the island in its purest form.
This place was created to protect beauty, celebrate culture, and ensure that meaningful traditions continue for generations to come.
Because when we build with soul, we build something that lasts.
A Personal Dedication
ELaiolithos is dedicated to Eleni’s three children, whose patience and support accompanied the journey of bringing this dream to life.
It is also a tribute to the many people — family, friends, artisans, and local workers — whose hands and hearts helped shape this place.
Building ELaiolithos was not only the creation of a destination.
It was itself another Naxos experience.
