The ELaiolithos Advantage

Historic & Cultural Treasures (All within 5–15 minutes):
Panagia Drosiani Church – Just a 350m walk from ELaiolithos, to one of the Balkans’ oldest Byzantine churches (4th–6th & 12th century). A spiritual, peacefully frescoed and architectural gem not to miss. Every traveler who comes to Naxos eventually finds their way to this church — a sacred landmark, second only to the Temple of Apollo (the Portara Gate) in Naxos town. From here, it’s just a gentle five-minute walk; step through its timeworn doors, and you’ll feel the soul of Naxos whispering in the stillness.
Kaloxylos Village & Olive Oil Tasting Museum – A picturesque village 2 km away. Visit ERGOSTASIO, where tradition meets flavor. Tour the museum with just 8 euros per person, explore its exhibits, learn and enjoy an unforgettable olive oil tasting experience—consistently loved by our guests. 📍 Google Maps link
Halki Village – Only 3 km (5-minute drive). The former capital of Naxos is now a hub of artistry, local craftsmanship, and gastronomy. Find The Kitron Distillery (free of entrance), handmade textiles, workshops, and artisanal shops featuring olive oil, herbs, honey, and more. This is the most visited village of Naxos — where the island’s heart beats the strongest, among neoclassical buildings that whisper stories of another time.
Everyone who journeys across Naxos eventually passes through here, drawn by its charm and vitality. Whatever the island’s highlands and heartland produce, you’ll find it in these small local shops — each one tended by hands that grow, weave, and create. We always advise everyone to shop here — to choose treasures that are local, handmade, and born from the island’s essence. Every purchase keeps the rhythm of this village alive, supporting the farmers, artisans, women, and mountain people who carry forward the true spirit of Naxos.
Ancient Temple of Demeter – 11 km away. Older than the Parthenon, this 6th-century BC temple is steeped in myth. Visit the archaeological site and the museum—a true must-see of Naxos. 📍 Google Maps link
Monastery of Fotodotis – Light-Giver of Naxos – Perched on a serene hillside above Danakos village, the Monastery of Fotodotis (meaning “He Who Gives Light”) is one of the island’s most atmospheric sites. Dating back to the 6th century, it offers a blend of spirituality, history, and panoramic views that stretch all the way to the sea. The walk to reach it is a peaceful uphill path, surrounded by olive trees and silence—well worth the journey. It’s a place where time slows down, and light truly feels sacred. It is near the Agia Marina chapel – the starting point for hiking to Zeus mountain.

But what truly sets Keramoti apart is the Routsouna Waterfall, one of the island’s most spectacular natural wonders. From the village, a 40–50 minute hike takes you through verdant trails, citrus groves, and ancient terraces, leading to a dramatic waterfall cascading down a rock face. The path itself is a journey of scents and sounds, where birdsong and running water accompany your every step.
It’s an unforgettable experience for nature lovers, hikers, and photographers alike—and a side of Naxos that few ever get to see.

-

Transportation & Getting Around
The answer depends on your goals for your stay:
Do I need to rent a car? Yes, we highly recommend renting a vehicle. Naxos is a large island, 404 sq.m, the largest of the Cycladic islands. If you want to explore the island, and visit major attractions/monuments, and picturesque villages, you need and must rent a car.
-
For the Hikers & Relaxers: If your plan is to simply unwind and immerse yourself in the mountains, you can easily spend 2-3 days here without a vehicle. ELaiolithos is surrounded by incredible trails, and you can explore the neighboring villages and scenic landscape entirely on foot.
-
For the Explorers: If you wish to see the famous beaches, distant landmarks, and the full diversity of Naxos, we highly recommend renting a car. Naxos is a large island, and having your own vehicle allows you to move at your own pace and reach hidden gems that public transportation simply doesn’t serve. Relying on the local bus can be limiting, as it only operates on fixed schedules and stops at specific main points.
💡 Pro-Tip:
Most of our guests find that a car is the best way to enjoy “the best of both worlds”—the peace of the mountains and the beauty of the coast!
We have plenty of free parking on-site!
